<h2>Background</h2>
<p>Maurice Woods completed a BFA in Graphic Design in 1995 and then an MFA in Visual Communication Design in 2005. While a graduate student, he created the Inneract Project (IP), which has the tag line "Empowering the Next Generation of Black and Brown Designers." Since IP recently celebrated its fifteenth anniversary, we spoke with Woods about his early years as a designer, the creation of IP, and its future.</p>
<h2>Interview</h2>
<p>Congratulations to Industrial Design students <strong>Lulu McRoberts</strong> and <strong>Jack Johnston</strong> for receiving a 2019 GRAY Award! They won the Student Design category, which was one of <a href="https://graymag.com/2019/11/26/these-are-the-2019-gray-award-winners/">… awards</a> presented during a November 20 event at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle.</p>
<h2>Series</h2>
<p>The 2020 Critical Issues Lecture Series takes place on Thursday evenings during winter quarter. It is organized by the School of Art + Art History + Design in collaboration with the Henry Art Gallery. The general public is invited to sit alongside degree-seeking individuals studying fine art in order to share ideas and raise questions about contemporary art. In addition to the public lectures, undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in ART 361/561 interface with the speakers in the classroom and studio.</p>

<p>The Jacob Lawrence Gallery, the gallery of the University of Washington School of Art + Art History + Design, is delighted to announce that Marisa Williamson will be its 2020 Jacob Lawrence Legacy Resident.</p>

<p>3D4M Assistant Professor Michael Swaine was awarded a University of Washington Royalty Research Fund Scholar grant in June 2018 for a project titled "Debugging." He went to Washington, DC, during the summer of 2019 to continue his research at the Smithsonian.</p>
<p>Swaine is interested in the notion of debugging in both culture and technology. He says:</p>
<p>We asked one undergraduate from each of the School's divisions to write about a summer experience. Learning comes in many forms and takes place both on campus and farther afield.</p>
