<p>Each October, the School awards over $210,000 in scholarships to new and returning students studying Art, Art History, and Design.</p>
<p>Two recent scholarship recipients share stories about their journey at the UW, what their scholarships mean to them, and what they are looking forward to when returning to campus this autumn.</p>

<p><a href="https://studiomatthews.com&quot; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Studio Matthews</a>, a design firm led by Visual Communication Design Associate Professor Kristine Matthews, recently won awards for two of their 2021 projects. Eli Kahn (BDes 2020) is a designer at the firm and worked on both of these projects.</p>
<h2>Ballard Food Bank</h2>

<p>Interaction Design Assistant Professor James Pierce received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award earlier this year. This significant honor, typically awarded only to faculty in science and engineering fields, is the NSF's "most prestigious award in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization."</p>

<p>The School of Art + Art History + Design is excited to announce an opportunity for three tenure-track faculty appointments, two in the Division of Art and one in the Division of Design. <p>Two museums near Seattle — <a href="https://www.cascadiaartmuseum.org/&quot; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Cascadia Art Museum</a> in Edmonds and the <a href="https://www.monamuseum.org/&quot; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Museum of Northwest Art</a> in La Conner — currently have exhibitions that include former faculty and alums.</p>

<p>The School of Art + Art History + Design is pleased to announce publication of the <a href="https://2022.uwsoaahdgradshow.com/&quot; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">2022 Graduate Showcase</a>. This website documents, in part, the <em>2022 MFA + MDes Thesis Exhibition</em>, which took place at the Henry Art Gallery from May 27 through June 26. It also presents the work of two Art History MA students who completed their degrees this year.

<p>Congratulations to Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby! They were one of two graduating University of Washington undergraduates awarded a 2022 President's Medal. UW President Ana Mari Cauce presented the medal to Gatsby on June 9 at the <a href="https://www.washington.edu/facultystaff/2022-awards-of-excellence/&quot; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Awards of Excellence</a> ceremony.</p>
