<p>The UW Department of Dance is excited to announce its first ever UW Dance Alumni Week! Mark your calendars because this spring, the UW Department of Dance will be inviting all of our UW Dance alumni to attend classes for free all week long and dance alongside current students with new and returning faculty! </p>

<h2><strong>Activators Workshop: </strong>build collective memories through engagement with community</h2>

<p><span>Join the Department of Dance for their first-ever concert in the round. Six premieres by our current graduate students, including one film, explore topics from Artificial Intelligence to the concept of Yin and Yang. </span></p>

<p>Bare feet, socks are fine. Please bring shoes (sneakers, dance shoes) if you have them.</p>

<p>Katherine Dunham (1909-2006) was a world-famous dancer, choreographer, anthropologist, and educator whose company toured six continents. She was also a visionary leader in the arts who built several institutions, including schools in New York and East St. Louis. Join Dr. Joanna Dee Das and Dr. Albirda Rose to discuss how Katherine Dunham’s legacy can be a model for educational and performing arts institutions today, particularly in promoting equity and justice. </p>

<p>Join the UW Department of Dance for an evening of live dance performance created by UW Dance faculty and guest artists.

<p><strong></strong><span>The annual Dance Majors Concert will present 6 student-choreographed works in the styles of contemporary ballet, hip-hop, and modern dance. Exploring themes of femininity, self discovery, love, and forgiveness, the students conceive their own visions and then collaborate with lighting and costume designers to bring their pieces to life onstage. Come and experience the premieres of these creative original works!</span><strong></strong></p>
