Improvised Music Project Festival (IMPFest) 

<p>The School of Music and the student-run Improvised Music Project present the annual Improvised Music Project Festival (IMPFEST), featuring two evenings of distinct performances by UW Music students, faculty, and guests. Featured artists for IMPFest 2023 are composer/pianist (and 2023 GRAMMY winner) <strong>Kris Davis</strong> and multi-instrumentalist/composer <strong>Michael Libramento. </strong></p>
<p><em>IMPFEST is made possible through generous support from Seattle's Raynier Foundation.</em></p>

UW Symphony and Concerto Competition Winners

<p>David Alexander Rahbee conducts the UW Symphony and winners of the 2023 UW Concerto Competition in a program of music by Camille Saint-Saëns, Alfred Desenclos, Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, Franz Schmidt, and Richard Wagner. Featuring Concerto Competition winners Dalma Ashby, violin; Katie Zundel, baritone saxophone; and Michael Gu, piano. With Daren Weissfisch and Ryan Farris, assistant conductors. </p>

Faculty Recital: Craig Sheppard, piano, Complete Chopin Nocturnes

<p>Chopin’s Nocturnes often belie their title of ‘Night Pieces.’ Each one is a small tone poem with moments of torment and grandeur, as faculty pianist Craig Sheppard demonstrates in his performance of the complete set of Nocturnes.  </p>

Ethnomusicology Visiting Artist Concert: Srivani Jade, Music of North India

<div>Indian Classical vocalist, educator, and composer, Srivani Jade presents "Ritu Chakra: Ragas of the Six Seasons of North India" in the culminating recital of her artist residency at the UW School of Music. She is accompanied by Deepashri Joglekar (Harmonium), Ravi Albright (Tabla), Suchitra Iyer (Vocal Saath), and Tanpura. Her UW students present a short opening act of Ragas and bandish compositions they learned during the quarter.</div>

Gospel Choir

<p><span>Phyllis Byrdwell leads the 100-voice gospel choir in songs of praise, jubilation, and other expressions of the Gospel tradition.</span></p>

Studio Jazz Ensemble and Modern Band

<p>The Studio Jazz Ensemble performs big band arrangements and repertory selections. The Modern Band performs innovative arrangements of jazz standards, selections from the outer limits of the genre, and new original compositions.</p>
