<blockquote><p>Autumn Quarter Ethnomusicology Visiting Artist <span>Miguel Ballumbrosio presents a performance of Afro-Peruvian dance and music traditions from the region of Chincha, where several generations of his family have been prominent culture bearers. He is accompanied by students from his classes in University of Washington Music and Dance  and by musicians from the Seattle-based Afro-Peruvian ensemble, De Cajón.</span></p>

<blockquote><p>This popular annual program by the Chamber Singers, University Chorale, University Singers, Treble Choir, Gospel Choir, and UW Glee Club features seven conductors, six choral ensembles, five hundred singers, four graduate conductors, three choral faculty, two hours of great music, and one impressive grand finale.</p></blockquote>

<blockquote><div>The UW Percussion Ensemble performs works integrating choice, performer-realization, and open instrumentation, exploring historical music by Franziska Boas and John Cage alongside newer works by Jeffrey Treviño, and Ivan Trevino plus a new work by Melissa Wang.</div>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">PROGRAM</p>

<p><span>Violinist Tekla Cunningham performs the Five Joyful Mysteries from H.I.F. von Biber’s</span><span> Mystery Sonatas. Each sonata calls for a differing scordatura tuning of the violin, accentuating the character of each piece. </span><span>The performance is one of three Cunningham will perform in </span><span><span>Seattle-area venues, to complete the full cycle of 15 sonatas in the spring of 2023.

<p><span>UW keyboard performance students perform concerto movements for outside judges for a chance to perform with the UW Symphony. Judges for this competition are Victor Rosenbaum (New England Conservatory), Jensina Oliver (Shoreline Community College), and Dainius Vaicekonis (Seattle Pacific University). </span></p>
<hr /><p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>PROGRAM</strong></p>

<p>The UW Voice Program presents an adaptation of Haydn’s 1773 one-act <span>singspiel</span> <em>Philemon und Baucis,</em> a tragicomic tale in two parts inspired by Ovid’s <em>Metamorphoses.</em></p>

<div dir="auto"><span><span>Guitar students of Michael Partington perform Brazilian Choros for guitar and saxophone by Celso Machado, Preludes by Villa-Lobos, folk arrangements from Chile and Bolivia, and Lou Harrison’s Turkish-inspired Serenade for guitar and percussion. With special guests Nick Franks and Rose Martin. </span></span><br />
