Studio Jazz Ensemble and Modern Band

<p>The Studio Jazz Ensemble performs music by Mercer Ellington and Bill Holman, as well as other big band arrangements and repertory selections. The Modern Band performs a set of original compositions by band members EJ Brannan, Andrew Friedrich, Beau Wood, Trevor Eulau, and Jacob Linden.</p>

Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band

<p>The UW Wind Ensemble (Timothy Salzman, director) performs music by Florent Schmitt and Jennifer Higdon. The Symphonic Band (Shaun Day, director) performs music by Darius Milhaud, Ronald Lo Presti, and Valerie Coleman. With Scott Farkas, percussion soloist on Jennifer Higdon’s Concerto for Solo Percussion and Band. </p>

Guest Artist Concert: Ensemble Dal Niente: Music of UW Faculty Composers

<p dir="ltr"><span>Chicago-based contemporary music collective Ensemble Dal Niente performs world premieres by School of Music faculty composers Joël-François Durand and Huck Hodge as well as pieces by Miya Masaoka and Andile Kumalo. With faculty violist Melia Watras, performing with the ensemble the world premiere of a new work by Durand, and faculty soprano Carrie Shaw, narrator on Andile Khumalo’s <em>Shades of Words.</em></span></p>

UW Symphony and Concerto Competition Winners

<p>David Alexander Rahbee conducts the UW Symphony and winners of the 2023 UW Concerto Competition in a program of music by Camille Saint-Saëns, Alfred Desenclos, Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, Franz Schmidt, and Richard Wagner. Featuring Concerto Competition winners Dalma Ashby, violin; Katie Zundel, baritone saxophone; and Michael Gu, piano. With Daren Weissfisch and Ryan Farris, assistant conductors. </p>

UW Symphony and Combined UW Choirs with Garret Dillahunt

<p>The UW Symphony (David Alexander Rahbee, director) performs works by Stravinsky, Poulenc, and Fauré in this end-of year performance. The orchestra is joined by the combined University Choirs in a performance of <span>Fauré: Requiem, Op.48, with Giselle Wyers conducting. Special guest for this performance is actor Garret Dillahunt, narrator on Poulenc's <em>L’histoire de Babar, le petit éléphant.</em></span></p>
