Chamber Singers & University Chorale with UW Opera Workshop, Baroque Ensemble, and Shoji Kameda: “Scatter, Gather"

<p>In the first half of this program, the Chamber Singers (Geoffrey Boers, director) and singers from the UW Opera Workshop, along with the UW Baroque Ensemble, perform Marc-Antoine Charpentier's <em>Les arts florissants. </em>In the second half of the program, the Chamber Singers and<em> </em>University Chorale (Giselle Wyers, director) present “Scatter, Gather,” a celebration of choral music traditions of the Pacific Rim and beyond. With special guest, Ethnomusicology Visiting Artist Shoji Kameda.</p>

Percussion Ensemble

<p>The University of Washington Percussion Ensemble (Bonnie Whiting, director) performs early and recent works for percussion ensemble in its Autumn Quarter concert, including all three of John Cage's Constructions, plus brand new works from the Everybody Hits consortium. </p>

Guest Orchestra Concert: Harmonia with UW Piano Students

<p>Guest orchestra Harmonia (William White, director) performs winning concerto excerpts by Rachmaninoff, Poulenc, Brahms, and Grieg with UW piano students <span>Jeffrey Tso, Jiayi Wang, Alex Fang, and Katherine Lee.</span></p>

Faculty Concert: Tekla Cunningham, violin: H.I.F. von Biber: Mystery Sonatas 

<p><span>Violinist Tekla Cunningham performs the Five Joyful Mysteries from H.I.F. von Biber’s</span><span> Mystery Sonatas. Each sonata calls for a differing scordatura tuning of the violin, accentuating the character of each piece. </span><span>The performance is one of three Cunningham will perform in </span><span><span>Seattle-area venues, to complete the full cycle of 15 sonatas in the spring of 2023. With </span></span>Henry Lebedinsky, organ and harpsichord; and <span>David Morris, viola da gamba</span>.

Wind Ensemble and Alumni Band: Finish Line

<p></p>
<p>Timothy Salzman wraps up a 38-year career as head of the UW Bands program with "Finish Line," a program of music by Cindy McTee, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Percy Grainger, and David Maslanka, performed by the UW Wind Ensemble and the UW Alumni Band.</p>

Faculty Concert:  Robin McCabe, Craig Sheppard, Cristina Valdés, Rachelle McCabe: Piano Power!

<p>Fingers will fly, with air traffic control required at the two keyboards when faculty pianists Robin McCabe, Cristina Valdés and Craig Sheppard join forces with guest artist Rachelle McCabe to present dynamic and festive arrangements for Two Pianos, Eight Hands.</p>
